Insta participating in The NEXES-project developing next generation´s emergency services


Insta is taking a part in The Nexes Research and Innovation project that started in May last year. The project aims to research, test and validate the promising integration of IP-based communication technologies into the emergency services, so that they attain increased effectiveness and performance.   

The target is especially to figure out how for example smart phones, their cameras as well as messaging and internet-based applications connecting to social media together with other technologies that citizens use in daily basis could be benefitted in reaching the right kind of help faster in a case on emergency.

The focus on Insta´s part in the project is primarily in developing emergency management information system and the next generation´s eCall system. The development is built on Insta ResponseTM product, that is also the base of Finland´s new emergency management information system, ERICA.  

In addition, Insta is leading the information security group of the project. The mission of the group is to supervise that the solution resulting from the project are done according standards and regulations. The group also makes sure that the solutions are safe to use from the information security point of view.

-        We don´t only take Finnish top expertice in security and emergency services to the international market, but also learn to understand the operational environments in different countries and create a network with European operators and companies, Kari Uusitalo, the Project Manager from Insta sums.  

The NEXES Consortium is led by Rinicom Limited (UK) and the 17 participants come from ten different countries. Together with Insta Finland is represented by the Police University College. The project lasts for three years and belongs to EU´s Horizon 2020 programme, which is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness.
